Embellish existing garments or add a decorative touch to your quilting and home decorating projects with this foot. It works like other free motion feet with the addition of small grooves that allow cording, yarn, or threads to pass underneath the presser foot.

A Guide to Specialty Needles

Are you using the same needle type for all your sewing projects regardless of the fabrics and threads you’re sewing with? If you’re silently nodding, then read on.

Using the wrong type of sewing needle is one of the most common mistakes novices and even some experienced sewist make. Different sewing needles actually serve different purposes and working with the wrong one can lead to needle breakage, difficulty working with the chosen fabric and poor stitch quality in general.

Janome offers a range of high quality Organ needles that perfectly complement our sewing machines. To help you figure out what your needs are, here’s a handy reference guide:

Universal Needle

The Universal needle is like your everyday needle for general domestic sewing. Although the name may imply you can use them in any sewing application, you may want to consider a different needle type for heavier or more delicate fabrics. This type of needle is most suitable for fabrics like cotton, linen, corduroy, batiste and suede.

Microtex Needle

Slim needles with sharp points to easily penetrate fine micro fabrics like chiffon, organdie, lace or microfiber fabrics without leaving large holes. The eye of this needle is enlarged compared to the needle slimness, this allows the use of standard thickness sewing thread.

Embroidery Needle

Embroidery needles have deeper scarf to avoid skipped stitches and a larger eye to prevent shredding when sewing with special machine embroidery threads.
This embroidery needle also features an anti-glue coating, making it great for sewing materials which are fixed with adhesive sprays, (e.g. Iron-on patches, Applique piecing or Velcro), the coating prevents a built-up of glue in the eye of the needle. If using a regular needle a glue build-up in the needle eye could result in skipped stitches or snapping top thread.

Quilting Needle

When quilting you need to go through several layers of fabric and sometimes they can be pretty thick. Our quilting needles have slim, sharp points and deeper scarf for smoother penetration on cotton compared to your regular needle. Also, recommended for sewing buttonholes.

Titanium Needle

As the name suggests, these light ballpoint needles are coated with titanium nitride which increases the needle life making it more durable. They are ideal for general sewing, heavy-duty sewing and machine embroidery.

Twin Needle

Twin needles are attached to a single shank and are evenly spaced between each other and are used to create two rows of stitches at a time.
We offer two types of twin needles – a regular point twin needle for woven fabrics and a stretch twin needle with a medium ballpoint for sewing stretch material such as knit and sportswear fabric.

Coverstitch Needle

Coverstitch needles are to be used in coverstitch machines. We offer two types of needles – ELx705CR SUK medium ballpoint needle for knitted or stretch fabrics and a ELx705 CR light ballpoint needle for woven fabrics. These needles suit our range of coverstitch machines.

When it comes to accessories for sewing and stitching, few tools are as important and functional as the sewing needle. If you’re sewing along at 600 stitches per minute, your needle is piercing the fabric TEN times per second. It’s no wonder a worn needle can cause problems for your machine. You should always start each new project with a new needle. Even better, you should choose the brand of needle engineered for your machine.

Make sure to ask your Janome dealer about genuine Janome Sewing Needles and Organ Needles the next time you pop into a Janome store.
